At the end of fiscal year 24-25, SFUU’s financial picture is definitely brighter than was forecast. Income was ahead of budget, and expenses were below projections. Here’s some detail:
Total Revenue: $ 206,379 (Budgeted $182,227)
Total Expenditures $170,372 (Budgeted $ 203,983)
On the revenue side, donations this past year exceeded pledges by about $17,000. Sunday collections were about $2,000 higher than budget. Income from the 2 fundraising events was about $7,000 above what was anticipated. Finally, the team that did election work pushed “other income” about $2,000 over predicted.
Expenses that were significantly lower than budget included: Donation to UUA was reduced by $5,000; Rev. Sangye’s contract ended up being 10 months instead of 12; and her professional expenses were under budget by about $3,000.
And so, because of all this good news, instead of having to dip into our reserves in the amount of approximately $27,000, we actually ended the fiscal year with a net surplus of approximately $36,000. The Finance Committee and Board of Trustees will be discussing how to best allocate these funds. (Note: the Board has already made a commitment to funding the congregation’s full requested contribution to UUA of $11,000 if possible.)
We would like to thank the entire congregation in helping this congregation thrive during this past fiscal year!

CA Proposition 50 is in the news! Voters in our state will decide in just a few weeks whether to temporarily realign our congressional districts so that Democrats have a chance of winning 5 more seats in congress. Remember, this unprecedented action is a direct response to the President’s demand that red states rig their districts (Texas has already done so) to insure the Republican domination of congress following the 2026 election.
How do we, UU’s who strive to live by our 7 sacred principles, respond? You may be questioning if we shouldn’t be “taking the high road” at this time. I’d say that we can continue to take the high road by remaining civil, speaking the truth, practicing non violence and, most importantly, standing up for those in our communities and around the world who are victims of the horrific, malevolent , and anti democratic agenda being enacted by the current administration.
Voting YES on Prop 50 is a concrete action we can take to say YES to our principles, YES to democracy, YES to a better vision of our beloved country.
From your Social Justice Team:
These are Robert Hubble’s words from his 9/2 email. How are we each doing our “small part” to defend democracy?
“Yes, it is exhausting and maddening to keep up with Trump's manic pace. The good news is that we don’t have to do it all ourselves. We need only do our small part in a national enterprise to defend democracy. Do not feel as though you must own and rectify every illegal effort by Trump. There are tens of millions of Americans who are sharing the burden. We should take neither solace nor complacency from the fact that defending democracy is a duty shared by millions. Rather, the fact that others are doing their part should inspire us and fill us with confidence that together, there is nothing we cannot do—with the operative word in that exhortation being “together.” Not by yourself, but as part of a community of like-minded Americans who will defend democracy at all costs.”
This event is hosted by Auburn Indivisible
and will take place at Jimboys Tacos located at 13409 Bowman Rd. in Auburn
