NorCal Resist Holiday Program - 2024

SFUU is once again participating in NorCal Resist’s annual Holiday Gift Program!! Help NorCal Resist to spread some holiday cheer. This year, they are doing a "Santa's Workshop" to include gifts for youth of various ages so that parents can come and pick a gift for their kids. Opportunities to provide gifts for the parents who work so hard but tend to not get much in return are also available.

The need is great, please consider joining in sponsoring holiday gifts for the asylum-seeking and immigrant people served by NorCal Resist this year!

We will be collecting your contributions after services on November 24th and December 1st for delivery to NorCal Resist on December 6th. If you can not attend Sunday services on that day please contact Carol Koons or Trish Caspers.

A gift guide for children and youth is provided below. You may wrap your gift if you wish, but please use secular wrapping paper and be sure to label what the gift is, so that it can be distributed appropriately.

NorCal Resist

NorCal Resist is a Sacramento-based organization, whose primary focus is to defend and empower refugees, immigrants and immigrant communities through shared resources and support. They equip impacted communities with the tools they need to fight immigration injustice by providing free assistance with ICE bails, trainings on how to safely navigate police and ICE encounters, material support to ICE detainees facing deportation, and assistance to asylum seekers. They also have Community Fix-It, Brake Light Repair, Accompaniment, and Food Distribution programs. Visit their website to learn more about their many programs and to find out how you might volunteer, or donate, to their efforts on behalf of immigrants in our communities. NorCal Resist was one of SFUU’s 2022 Share-the-Plate recipients and we have contributed to their Holiday Program over the last 3 years. To donate directly to NorCal Resist, click here.

NorCal Resist Holiday Program - 2023

In 2023, NorCal Resist revamped their holiday program to better align with their mission and goals. Previously donors were invited to “adopt a family”, and then were provided a list specific to that the family. This year they provided a Holiday Gift Packet List, comprised of essential items that were continually requested in previous holiday programs and throughout the year in general. SFUU members once again turned out with generous contributions for this holiday season.

December 2022 Adopt-A-Family

Our congregation stepped up in a big way to put together a generous holiday package for a family of 6 that SFUU adopted for the holidays through NorCal Resist. Members donated new clothing, bikes, hand sewn Christmas stockings, kids books, small gifts for the 2 older children (who did not request bikes) in addition to gift cards so that they can choose their own items.

Social Justice thanks you for your continued generosity to this program.

NorCal Resist Adopt-A-Family - 2021

Sierra Foothills UU and Bethlehem Lutheran have teamed up since 2020 to spread holiday cheer to a NorCal Resist family that is struggling economically during these difficult times. NorCal Resist provides us with a profile of each family member and their wish lists, and we are asked to give at least one item to each person to brighten their holiday and provide essential needs. Your generous contributions have allowed us to give much more than that each year. THANK YOU! If you missed donating to our designated family, but would still like to help, you can always donate directly to NorCal Resist to support the immigrant justice work that they are doing.
